The New Astrology

Here it is mid January of 2011 and the calls have been flooding in about what is the scoop with the “New Astrology”

After writing many emails and answering many calls I decided to write about it not only from my perspective but include articles and information captured from the web. So Lets get started..

Lets talk about  “Shift”
This universal shift marks the beginning of the  final alignment for 2012….
It began on the Winter Solstice of 2010 with the solar eclipse. No need to panic as the energies are still coming in as before…Our universal platform has broadened and now expands to include the 13th sign and constellation of Ophiuchus (according to some). This constellation has been around for all time and is not  new.  As our earth spins in the universe it is a constant motion and yes there is a “wabble” factor. It is this factor that caught the interest of Einstein and so many other brilliant beings. After thousands of years spinning in the universe our earth’s axis has changed. This is not new or sudden and I believe this new set of Astrology signs are meant to effect the “New Generation” and forward. Those born on Dec 21, 2010 and forward will be effected.  So please do not panic, you are still you. Below are some good explanations of what has happened. I cut and pasted different reports and the credits will be at the bottom. My 2011 Astrology and Energy Guide is very helpful, informative and valid unless you were born after Dec. 21, 2010. This is an extraordinary year and great horizons are ahead for us all.  The jury is still out on the new information and lets stay open and embrace this “new” time-line and remember our place still stands with the ancients. The energy is the energy and the lunar influence still stands. So take a deep Breath and yes if you are a Gemini you are still a Gemini.

Please read on…..

Bellow are pieces from News Reports, Blogs and google info:

The change in Zodiac Signs and the new astrology chart not official
“Internationally recognized astrology institutions have come out strongly speaking against the revelation of the change in zodiac signs and the new sign on the astrology chart.”
According to astrologers, the new Ophiuchus zodiac sign was promoted by Parke Kunkle of the Minnesota Planetarium Society, who as we had reported revealed the change in zodiac signs in an interview. The change it seems has not been recognized or accepted by any organization.
In a statement by the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute, it has been revealed that “the International Astronomical Union, an internationally recognized body regarding astronomical matters, hasn’t made an official announcement on the change of zodiac signs.” The press relations manager, Sul Ah-chim also added that if such a change was to happen, “the decision should be made by the official body. For now, the news about the introduction of the 13th zodiac sign has originated from an astronomer, therefore, it’s more like his personal suggestion, not an official decision by the union.”
For others, who have faced an identity crisis after the change in zodiac signs was revealed, the new astrology chart is only applicable for people born after 2009, and for those born before that, the zodiac signs remain the same as what they were born even if the change gets recognized by the international organizations.

Since astronomer Parke Kunkle dropped his little bombshell on NBC News this week that changes in the Earth‚s alignment had created a 13th zodiac sign called Ophiuchus, MINNEAPOLIS – It’s a new year, and there’s new Zodiac signs for many in 2011. Professor Parke Kunkle of the Minnesota Planetarium Society says the Zodiac has a date problem. If you imagine the Earth as a spinning top, the axis changes as it wobbles.

5,000 years later, it means the stars are not aligned, so those with a Libra horoscope are really a Virgo, and many others have a new Zodiac sign too.

“Right now its pointing this way, the North Star, but 3000 BC it was pointing differently,” Kunkle said. “Now things have moved and the sun is in a different constellation. We’re about a whole constellation off.“

Has my sun sign really changed? What the heck is Ophiuchus, and how do you pronounce it anyway?

Ophiuchus (O-fee-uh-kus), the Serpent Holder, has been known to astrologers since ancient times. His toe touches the ecliptic (the path of the 12 major constellations) though the bulk of the Serpent Holder lies above the other constellations. If you were practicing sidereal astrology (as do the Vedic astrologers of India) in which the planets are located by constellation, it could conceivably make sense to include Ophiuchus.

But in Western astrology, we locate planets based on the seasons, not the constellations. About 4000 years ago, when on the first day of Spring the Sun was in the constellation of Aries, the two systems coincided. Now, because of precession (the slow wobble of the Earth on its axis), the Sun enters the Spring equinox in the sign of Aries but the constellation of Pisces. The systems are now approximately 23 degrees apart. Therefore, unless you were born very late in the sign, your Sun sign indeed shifts backwards in the sidereal system. A Virgo becoming a Leo? Unthinkable! Yet in the Vedic system, it makes sense.

Since none of this was properly explained, Kunkle‚s „revelation‰ became yet another excuse for the media to debunk astrology and stir up controversy. Yet, I believe there is a deeper reason why the Serpent Holder came to our attention at this point in time. The Sun was passing through the constellation of Ophiuchus, located near the Galactic Center, at the life-changing Winter Solstice/total lunar eclipse of Dec. 21. The Solstice sets the energy pattern for each New Year. And, between 2010 and 2012, the Solstice Sun is aligned with the Galactic Equatorˆa phenomenon that only happens every 26,000 years. The Mayans saw this as such a significant shift that they ended their calendar at the 2012 Solstice.

The lunar eclipse at the last Solstice awakened the Serpent. This deep, primal life force is the kundalini power coiled at the base of our spinesˆthe transformative power of sexual energy raised to its highest potential. Trace any spiritual teaching back far enough, and you‚ll find the serpentˆrevered as the Great Mother of all. Though this energy can feel chaotic, it is the source of all creativity and power.

The Serpent Holder announces that we are shedding our skins, that 2011 will be a year of death and rebirth, healing and magic. No doubt you are feeling the intensity, amplified by the Jan. 4 solar eclipse (see my last essay). By surrendering to the ecstatic energy of the serpent and trusting our intuitive guidance, we can liberate ourselves from fears and obstacles that have oppressed us for lifetimes. Because you chose to incarnate in this time and place, you are ready.

The Flap About a New Zodiac
by Gloria Star

Heaven help us …! A group of astronomers in Minnesota announced on January 12, 2011 that the zodiac is out of date and must be revised. Starting with a local newspaper article, and growing into an internet buzz saw, there’s been quite the kerfuffle. Unfortunately for the astronomers, their data is not exactly correct and will not result in a change of the zodiac.

The primary problem is that astronomers generally do not really know much about astrology. Over the years, certain “arguments” about astrology crop up. The two arguments currently in the news are not new at all. In this instance, however, … thanks mostly to the viral nature of the internet … this story went wild. Within hours, hundreds of articles and newscasts were released about the change in the zodiac. I could not find a newscast on TV on January 14th that did not say something about “what’s your sign.”

Here’s the skinny:  According to Minnesota astronomer Parke Kunkle, changes in the Earth’s alignment with the heavens has changed the zodiac. Additionally, the Minnesota astronomers brought up the old hoax about a “13th Sign,” Ophiuchus. Both “new facts” lack credibility. Let’s tackle these recurring inaccuracies.

·         First, do keep in mind that astrologers do not rely on the simplicity of Sun Signs for their work. The position of the Sun is only one part of your personal horoscope. The zodiac is used to measure the positions of the planets. Astrologers study all the planets in our solar system, and more!

·         Regarding the question of the signs being out of sync with the constellations, there’s a major flaw. Western astrologers use a system called the tropical zodiac (that’s what most everyone is familiar with) to create measurements using celestial longitudes. We do not use constellations to make these measurements. We calculate the zodiac beginning with the moment the Sun enters Aries (the Spring Equinox, and the Aries Point), the hour and day the Sun’s rays meet the equator directly overhead. This continues through the equinoctial and tropical points (the four seasonal changes). This system employed by western astrologers uses a zodiac based upon signs, and their positions are determined by the Aries Point.

·         There is also a system of astrology based upon the sidereal zodiac used by Vedic astrologers, and these two zodiacs, the tropical and sidereal, are out of sync by about 23 degrees. That’s why your sun sign might be different if a Vedic astrologer calculates your chart. Both systems are valid, but the Vedic system uses a set of calculations called precessions that involve the wobbling of Earth on its axis, and accounts for the 23 degree difference. However, this is simply a different way of measuring the positions of celestial bodies. In the end, it involves an understanding of the conversion of those measurements from one system to another … much like the difference between inches and centimeters.

·         Now to Ophiuchus … the so-called “13th sign.”  There is a constellation by this name whose outlying stars are in a bit of a tangle with two nearby constellations — Scorpius and Sagittarius. By the way, the boundaries of constellations are determined by a committee of the International Astronomers Union IAU. Despite this tangle, Ophiuchus is not recognized as a sign of the zodiac. In fact, the Sun enters the celestial longitudes of Scorpius and Ophiuchus at relatively the same time! So, this idea of adding a 13th sign does not hold water.

So, to put this in perspective, your “sign”  is still your sign. All the positions of planets and points in your chart are still measured by the same signs. And astrologers have not redesigned the zodiac.
